Why people who always get bitten are switching to bracelets

What's worth knowing before your next trip, or your next evening in the garden.

1. Some people really do get bitten more. It isn't bad luck.

Mosquitoes track carbon dioxide, body heat and skin bacteria. Blood type, how much you sweat, even what you've had to drink, some people are simply easier to find.

If that's you, you already know. You're the one comparing bites at breakfast while everyone else shrugs.

Ours are woven with citronella, lemongrass and eucalyptus, then sealed so the oils stay in the fibres. They don't make you invisible, they make the air around you unpleasant to fly through.

2. One on your wrist. One on your ankle. That's the bit most people get wrong.

A bracelet protects the area around it. Wear one and you'll cover an arm and get bitten on your leg. Both go on in seconds.

Almost everyone who tells us these worked is wearing two: one wrist, one opposite ankle. Almost everyone who tells us they didn't was wearing one.

Two per person, per day. That's our method.

3. Nothing on your skin. Nothing to reapply. Nothing to breathe in.

The strong sprays work. They also smell, sting, dry your skin out, and have to go back on every few hours, usually the moment you've sat down with a drink.

So you skip one application. Then you're bitten at 9pm on the balcony, and the bottle in your bag did nothing because it was in your bag.

You tie it on in the morning and forget about it. That's the entire difference.

Pestects bands are my trusted favourites. I was sceptical about using them 3 years ago. They are brilliant. I have never been bitten by any insects while wearing the bracelets.

I wear one on my wrist and one on my ankle when I’m in a place renowned for mosquitoes. Other times, I just have one on an ankle, like at home in the summer. I never take them off. I just replace a band after a number of weeks. I have used them twice in Florida, Vietnam Dominican Republic, Turkey and other places in Europe. No bites. Brilliant.

4. Wear it, seal it, wear it again.

Here's what nobody tells you about repellent bracelets: the scent fades faster in open air than most brands admit.

So don't leave them out. The clock only runs while a bracelet is out of the packet.

Wear a pair, seal them back in the pack, take a fresh pair tomorrow. The used ones recover. A 12 pack rotated this way covers a two week trip for one person and anything you don't use stays good for up to two years.

Two things we'd rather tell you now

They tie one handed once you know the trick. Tie a loose knot first, slide it over your wrist, then pull the ends tight. Most people struggle the first time and assume it's a design fault. Or use the stretchy bands, which just slip on.

They're strongest in the first few days out of the pack. Which is why we tell you to rotate rather than wear one until it fades. Wear a pair, seal them back, take a fresh pair tomorrow.

Wear them. If they don't work for you, you get your money back.

45 days, no return needed for opened packs, no arguing.

We started Pestects because we both have sensitive skin and couldn't use the strong stuff. We'd rather have a customer who trusts us than a sale we had to defend.

Loved by thousands of insect magnets

Glad I got these

"Excellent product, the bracelets come in various colours so my son and husband usually choose the darker colours, my daughter and I the brighter. We’ve been Mexico, Tenerife and turkey and these bands have never let us down. My daughter has had leukemia and undergone a bone marrow transplant so we are always extremely worried about bites with her but these bands have given us much more peace of mind. She wears one on her wrist and one on her ankle and has been great every time. Please don’t hesitate- get them NOW!"

"I have just come back from Borneo and despite being right in the jungle 1hr 45mins over the open sea in a speedboat despite lots of insects, I didnt get bitten once and everytime insects were around they moved away from me. I wore a bracelet on wrist and ankle. A great product that really works."

Insects love me!

"Insects love me. My husband rarely gets bitten whereas I get covered /eaten alive in bites. Purchased these (now on second pack) & was amazed they actually worked. Made a huge mistake this week of gardening without wearing one (normally wear 24/7!) & now have loads of bites😑 which at least served as a reminder to write a review for this company."
